Counseling can be an important part of the adjustment and post-adoption process for some children and families. As kids age and reach different developmental milestones, their understanding of adoption and the related issues changes, and they may have difficulty at times. If they experienced trauma in their past, this may surface at different times as well, requiring therapy or other supportive services to help the child deal with the past trauma.
Families that are looking for counseling or therapy should be aware that adoption issues will affect your child's adjustment. Counselors and therapists should be familiar with common adoption issues and ready to offer solutions that will address the unique needs of your familiy. At CHI, we offer counseling in-house for our current and former families. Counseling sessions are 50 minutes in duration and are offered at the cost of $90 per couple/family session or $75 per individual session. A sliding scale is available for families experiencing economic hardship. Families may utilize counseling to improve communication or behavioral issues, help the family adjust to the adoptive placement, or to offer support for a child that needs a safe place to talk. If you are interested in how counseling services may be helpful for your family, please call to schedule an appointment with one of our counselors.
