Process of Adoption
The first step is to contact the office to explore general information about whether our programs might be a good fit for you.
Next, we invite you to attend an orientation meeting. We offer orientation sessions at 5:30pm on the first Tuesday of every month. Our orientation will provide detailed information on our programs, and our social work staff will answer any questions you might have. Please contact us to RSVP for an upcoming orientation meeting.
You will be provided an application packet at your orientation. You may complete and return your application packet at your earliest convenience.
Once your application is accepted, you begin completing the home study paperwork and attend the required training classes.
You will be assigned a Social Worker after you have submitted all required paperwork. Your Social Worker will interview each family member individually and there will be a joint interview for those applying as a couple. Your Social Worker will also evaluate your home for safety issues and support you in creating a safe home environment that meets RFA standards.
Once your home study is completed, you begin the matching process to be considered for child(ren) that may be a good fit for your family. You will be invited to a full disclosure meeting to hear more about any children that you might potentially match with.
Upon the placement of child(ren) in your home, you can expect regular visits from your Social Worker to ensure that the placement is a good fit for both you and your child(ren). If you need support or services during this time, your Social Worker will link you to appropriate providers and resources.
After the monitoring phase is finished, you will finalize your adoption in court and the child will be a permanent member of your family.
